| echnological advances have made lasers a serious solution for patients with unsightly veins, unwanted hair, stubborn sunspots or tattoos that have lost their appeal. In addition, lasers can treat many visible signs of aging on the skin's surface, as well as some that develop beneath the skin. |
At Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg we have laser solutions for:
Aging and Wrinkles
Laser resurfacing is highly effective in removing the top layers of the skin, thus evicting the fine lines and wrinkles that once lived there. Multiple sessions should be expected in order to stimulate new collagen production. The new collagen tightens and tones, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Though many people are happy with the results, resurfacing doesn't take the place of a facelift. The newest addition of lasers includes the Fraxel® Laser and has been proven to effectively treat lines and wrinkles on the face, chest, neck and hands. The Fraxel laser has also shown effectiveness in treating tone, texture and pigment irregularities.
Sun and Age Spots and Freckles
Various forms of lasers attack pigment in lighter complexions. The result can range from a gradual lightening of the spots to an almost immediate darkening, and development of a flat scab that flakes away within a week or two. The newest addition of lasers includes the Fraxel Laser and has been proven to effectively treat melasma, photo damaged skin and acne scars. Treatable indications for the Fraxel Laser currently include photoaged skin, melasma, fine facial and periorbital wrinkles, skin pigment discoloration, acne scars, enlarged pores, stretch marks, hypertropic scars and keloidal scars.
Photodamage of non-facial areas of the neck, chest, and hands has also been treated safely and efficiently.
Studies have shown that patients have uniformly responded well to a series of three to five treatment sessions at two to four week intervals.
With any laser treatment, it is best to avoid sun exposure two weeks prior to treatment, during the course of treatment, and for as long as your doctor recommends after treatment is complete. Lasers react to pigment, and if your skin has excess pigment, you risk the potential for burns.
