(Also known as augmentation mammoplasty)
| ou're curious about breast enlargement surgery. And no wonder. It's the most popular plastic surgery procedure for women today. |
You might be surprised to learn who has breast implants. It could be your neighbor, an acquaintance at the gym or a co-worker.
Many of our patients at Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg tell us they choose breast augmentation to give more balance to their pear-shaped bodies. Mothers bothered by the toll of childbearing and breastfeeding want to regain breast volume. Women who lost a significant amount of weight want fuller, better shaped breasts to fit in with their healthier, fitter bodies.

What You Need to Know about Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation increases size using implants filled with silicone gel or saline. Each has its benefits depending upon your body and personal preferences. It is also important to consider your breast implant warranty.
You want proportionate, not exaggerated, results. For a natural look, take into account your physical build, the width of your chest wall, the amount of natural breast tissue and your overall figure. At Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg, we encourage patients to "test drive" their new implants.
Procedure and Recovery
The surgery takes one to two hours and is usually an outpatient procedure. Make sure the surgical setting is accredited. This assures that the facility meets medical standards.
Side effects are temporary soreness, swelling, bruising, and changes in nipple sensation.
Most patients can return to normal activities in a few days. Strenuous activities should be avoided for a few weeks. There is a relatively low risk of surgical complications or infection.
Within several weeks the implants will settle into place and soften. Final positioning of the breast implants may take up to three months.
You should return to your plastic surgeon's office for follow-up care at prescribed intervals, at which time your progress will be evaluated. Your surgeon will encourage you to schedule routine mammographic evaluations at the frequency recommended for your age group.
Please remember that the relationship with your plastic surgeon does not end when you leave the operating room. If you have questions or concerns during your recovery, or need additional information at a later time, you should contact your surgeon. If you need additional revision surgery Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg is here to assist you.
To help you get the best results it is important to talk to a board-certified surgeon and learn more about breast enhancement.
