What You Need to Know about Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation increases size using implants filled with silicone gel or saline.  Each has its benefits depending upon your body and personal preferences. It is also important to consider your breast implant warranty.

You want proportionate, not exaggerated, results.  For a natural look, take into account your physical build, the width of your chest wall, the amount of natural breast tissue and your overall figure. Procedure and Recovery

The surgery takes one to two hours and is usually an outpatient procedure.  Make sure the surgical setting is accredited.  This assures that the facility meets medical standards.

Side effects are temporary soreness, swelling, bruising, and changes in nipple sensation.

Most patients can return to normal activities in a few days.  Strenuous activities should be avoided for a few weeks. There is a relatively low risk of surgical complications or infection.

Within several weeks the implants will settle into place and soften. Final positioning of the breast implants may take up to three months.

You should return to your plastic surgeon's office for follow-up care at prescribed intervals, at which time your progress will be evaluated. Your surgeon will encourage you to schedule routine mammographic evaluations at the frequency recommended for your age group.
